This team offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills and build on your experience of working with adults with learning disabilitieswith a diverse, fascinating range of complex needs.

Our goal is to support service users to remain in the community when in crisis, by offering additional mental health support, therapy, and treatment. We support the transition of service users to return from out of area placements and work with services supporting young people to prevent them having to leave Peterborough unnecessarily.

A key part of your role will be working with the wider team to develop greater understanding of people’s difficulties. As a team we are passionate about development and providing the best possible care for our service users.

To collaboratively work with the individuals with Learning Disabilities who have complex needs referred to our service when in a crisis to restore or create a match between the abilities of the person, the demands of activities/ occupations, and environment to improve function and access to opportunities for meaningful participation in daily life.

Interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the principles of recovery, enablement, compassionate care, optimism, hope and unconditional positive regard.

To work collaboratively with all disciplines as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assure a high standard of care for patient/clients and their relatives/carers, under supervision of a Senior Occupational Therapist.

To apply a level of understanding of the impact of mental health difficulties, behaviours that challenge and sensory processing difficulties has on occupational performance.

To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments of adults with Learning Disabilities referred based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources including OT assessments, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care and welfare.

To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, direct interventions and discharge of clients, and to manage and maintain a caseload with support of senior OT.
