THIS IS A FIXED TERM POST FOR 12 MONTHS DUE TO FUNDING

The Lead Information Analyst will play a key role in developing the health board's analytical and intelligence capability, embedding a culture of data-based decision making. The post holder will take ownership of specified areas of work and provide line management and development support to junior analysts.

This is a 1-year fixed term position within the Allied Health Professionals, Health Sciences and Digital Directorate.

Role is based in Bronllys Hospital, although agile working is supported. Successful applicants must be able to travel and work on site, with a flexible approach to home working.

The team has recently migrated to a modern cloud data platform using Databricks on Azure — an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary data engineering tools and architecture.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at Bronllys Hospital consisting of a one-hour practical skills assessment and a one-hour structured interview.

The skills assessment will cover SQL and Power BI, including creating, interpreting and presenting a dashboard.

Main duties of the job

The Lead Information Analyst will engage in all elements of the data lifecycle:

  • working directly with service users to understand their business requirements,
  • acquiring data from a variety of different systems,
  • managing the transition of data into the data warehouse,
  • manipulation and analysis of data, and
  • creating and disseminating reports.

Additionally, the post holder will:

  • take responsibility for the quality and timeliness of outputs within their designated areas of work,
  • line manage and support the development of junior team members,
  • build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders across the organisation, and
  • contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes and ways of working

The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong SQL skills with the ability to guide and quality assure the work of others,
  • Substantial experience of data warehousing preferably in a cloud data platform,
  • Knowledge of NHS data and information standards,
  • Experience of working data visualisation tools, preferably Power BI,
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring or developing other staff

Excellent communication skills will be required to engage with staff and stakeholders at all levels within Powys and external organisations.

Experience of hospital information systems will be an advantage.

  • At least 5 years employment in a data analytics role
