Every new member of staff is assigned a mentor and the full statutory ECT induction programme is available for teachers new to the profession. Blundell’s School is a regional training centre for ECTs in the independent sector.

THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
The successful candidate will join a team of seven talented staff with a wide variety of academic interests. The department is located at the heart of the school, adjacent to the recently refurbished library.
The department meets formally on a weekly basis and is committed to CPD training. We pursue academic excellence and recognise that our involvement in the subject extends into our own reading, writing and participation in co‐curricular activities.At A-Level, pupils follow the English Literature Edexcel or the English Language AQA syllabus. Students in Years 10 and 11 take either IGCSE English Language (Edexcel) or CIE Language IGCSE, in addition to the IGCSE English Literature (Edexcel) course.
In Years 7-9, teaching is centred on a core curriculum designed by the department to meet the unique interests and needs of each class. The curriculum emphasises developing excellence in reading, writing, and oracy skills. Staff are actively encouraged to explore and introduce new texts to inspire and engage students.
We offer a diverse programme of visiting speakers, theatre visits, workshops, and the opportunity to enter local and national writing competitions. We also run a successful Public Speaking and Debating Society and students participate in the English Speaking Union competitions.The successful candidate will be eager to engage in all aspects of the department and play an active role in its ongoing development.
