An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Women’s Secure Blended Service and the Forensic CAMHS Team at Ardenleigh. The successful applicant will join both already established Occupational Therapy Services.
These services provide assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and aftercare to our service users with complex mental health needs. The role will require the individual to work autonomously and use initiative to develop our shared areas such as the shop, library and hub to make these safe spaces for our service users to get their needs met, enhance their recovery and provide educational and work opportunities.

The hub space is a new space we aim to develop into a working internet coffee shop for our service users and staff. This is a really exciting opportunity for the staff member to develop this space alongside service users with the aim of supporting service users’ recovery, provide a space for education and build skills such as resilience, time management and communication.

Main duties of the job

Under supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist the post holder will be expected to:

  • To role model pro social attitudes and behaviours.
  • To maintain safe and effective working practices and take steps to minimise risk.
  • To work with the wider multi-disciplinary team to ensure the appropriateness of worker roles available to service users.
  • Use technical/creative skills to assist in the provision of a flexible, client centred programme of therapeutic activities.
  • To provide oversight and leadership of the therapeutic worker roles and ensure that these are provided in line with service user need.
  • To provide leadership of the internal shop, including operational management i.e. Till operation/money management, stock control/ stock rotation, the ordering,
  • It will be a requirement the post holder will need to demonstrate a positive attitude towards the client group and promote recovery activities.
  • The role will include lone working with service users
  • To provide oversight of the general running of the Library alongside leadership to ensure that the Library worker role is relevant and beneficial to service users.
  • To establish excellent working relationships with the wider MDT to enable a collaborative co-created space for service users to gain experience working in a coffee shop, running of the timetable, computer café, events planning and facilitation.
  • To maintain accurate clinical records and appropriate data.

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Level 3 NVQ qualification (teaching or health and social care etc)
  • Proficient skills in IT, Maths and English (Level 2 or above)
  • Ability to manage conflict effectively and work with service users with challenging mental health
  • Have an understanding of the Occupational Therapy profession and its role within Mental Health Services.
  • Previous retail/ customer service experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and competency in engagement of service users in projects/care
  • Previous experience working in a coffee shop/café.
  • Previous experience working in a health care setting

The Trust will reimburse this. You will be contractually obliged to maintain your subscription.

All successful applicants will be required to complete the Trust’s induction programme. The Fundamental (Statutory and Mandatory) training will be in an e-learning format. You will be required to complete training modules online (approx. 9-14 hours depending on post) by the end of your second week with us.
