We are looking for a self-employed Clerk to the Appeals Panel to take over the role this current school year. The panel hear admission appeals from parents/carers whose children are not offered a place at Chipping Campden School (CCS) due to being over the Published Admission Number within the required year group.
The role is hybrid with flexibility required to attend hearings held at CCS. Hearings are often held during the evenings, ad-hoc throughout the year as and when appeals are required, with the peak falling during the summer term (April – June) for Year 7 admission appeals.Last year, the Clerk worked approximately 115 hours but this fluctuates year-on-year.
The responsibilities of this position include:- To make the necessary administrative arrangements for the hearing
- Forming the panel, based on specific criteria, and ensuring panel members receive training to fulfil their role
- Responding to any queries from parents in advance of the appeal hearing
- Providing independent and impartial advice to all parties on the appeals process and admissions law when it’s requested by having strong working knowledge of the School Admission Appeals Code and the School Admissions Code
- Sending all the relevant papers required for the hearing to all parties
- Informing all parties about the order of the proceedings in advance of the hearing
- To ensure the hearing is heard fairly and impartially
- Keeping an accurate record of the proceedings
- Sending written notification of the panel’s decision.
A full and comprehensive handover will be provided by the current Clerk prior to taking part in any hearing. The hourly rate is £16 per hour, invoiced to CCS.Further information about our school and application forms can be found on our website.
