Apprentice Secretary - Gastroenterology

** 20 month Fixed Term Contract - Apprenticeship **
We welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice and gain experience in the NHS. You will develop new skills and knowledge whilst working with an established team gaining valuable work experience and a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
You will be enrolled with a local education provider and will be required to complete your Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration Apprenticeship Standard qualification within the duration of the placement.We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and versatile individual to join the Trust as an Apprentice Secretary in the Gastroenterology Department.
Our Gastroenterology department is split up into sub-specialities and further sub-specialities within these; Hepatology/Pancreatic; Nutrition; Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
We operate outpatient clinics, inpatient endoscopy and outpatient endoscopy and have an allocated gastroenterology ward (Guist) for patients.
We have consultants, registrars, IBD specialist nurses, Liver specialist nurses and Nutrition specialist nurses along with Upper and Lower Cancer specialist nurses
As a busy department our patients are at the heart of everything we do and being focused on delivering the quality of care that our patients expect, in a timely manner is vital in this role.
You will work as part of a busy team and respect and integrity are an essential part of the ethos of working together that drives our department. This is a busy role with varying demands, so building an effective rapport with colleagues and being ready to take their guidance and offer your support will be really important.

Our secretaries act as a point of contact for all communications between the Consultant, patients, relatives, all hospital staff, General Practitioners and their staff and outside agencies, maintaining a close working relationship between Consultants and patients as appropriate.
Monday – Friday 9.00 – 17.00

Eligibility Criteria
All applicants must be:
- Aged 16+
- Resident in the UK/EEA for the last three consecutive years
- Must not have a qualification in a similar subject at the same level or above
- Must not be in any form of formal government-funded education upon the start of their apprenticeship
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Good general standard of education
- 4 GCSE’s at Grade D/3 or above (or equivalent) subject to the job specification
- Good standard of literacy and numeracy
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good IT skills
