Policy Adviser - Banking Assets and Resolution Strategy

About the Team
The Banking Assets and Resolution Strategy team is a friendly and inclusive team of around 15 people, with a varied and interesting range of work within the Group.
We are responsible for policy for exiting the government’s shareholding in NatWest Group and for handling the government's exposures to Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley. We are also responsible for developing the UK’s resolution regime which handles the failure of financial sector firms.As a team we have significant exposure to ministers and senior officials.
About the Job
In this role, you will:
- Develop knowledge and expertise in a particular policy area, working with colleagues within Treasury and beyond to provide evidence-based information and advice to ministers
- Act as a point of contact for your policy area, dealing with problems or queries as they arise
- Consider and advise ministers on potential options for policy reform, assessing evidence and weighing the benefits and risks of different options to provide well balanced recommendations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with a range of partners – both within Treasury, and externally, particularly with the Bank of England, the financial regulators (the Prudential Regulation Authority and the Financial Conduct Authority) and industry
- Work closely with Treasury Legal Advisers to develop legislation that achieves the government’s policy aims, and ensure that legislation passes through Parliament smoothly
- Handle press and public enquiries, working closely with others including Press Office to ensure accurate and timely responses are provided
About You
You don’t need to be a policy professional or have any specific qualifications to apply to work as a Policy Adviser at HM Treasury. We are looking for people who have the right set of skills for the role, who demonstrate the values of our organisation, and who are motivated to come and work with us on a range of issues that are at the heart of how we spend money and deliver public services.
If you can analyse complex evidence and consider different options in order to reach and communicate balanced and well-informed recommendations, plan and balance short- and long-term priorities effectively to keep work on track, and can build and maintain productive partnerships with a range of colleagues, then we want to hear from you!
