Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Cross Divisional research team at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking to appoint a caring, highly motivated, forward thinking and enthusiastic nurse to help lead and drive research across Gastro, Hepatology, Renal, Rheumatology and other medical care areas.

As a research nurse you will be responsible for delivering studies helping change NHS treatments and patients lives for the better.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team and will be responsible for supporting the day to day running of NIHR Portfolio studies and other projects. These include all aspects of patient identification, recruitment and follow up of participants in addition to any study specific procedures.

You will be responsible for managing your portfolio in a patient focus manner and growing future opportunities for studies in you specialty. A key part of the role will be to liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team across departments therefore you must possess excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate good attention to detail.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Research experience would be advantageous but not essential, all necessary training and support will be provided. The post will provide the unique opportunity of working across specialties (Gastro, Hepatology, Renal, Rheumatology, and other medical areas).

In addition you will:

  • Be a registered nurse with a degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Have effective time management and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Be able to integrate with a number of teams in order to achieve set objectives
  • Be conversant with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Governance.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access etc)
  • Be willing to work flexibly in terms of hours and duties to meet service needs.
  • Be familiar with Trust CORE Values and be willing work alongside the values.
  • Previous practical experience of clinical trials/research will be an asset but not essential

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Mentorship qualification/ ENB 998 or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Assessor
  • Recognised post registration qualification within a speciality

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent clinical experience in an acute clinical environment
  • Experience in mentoring / facilitation / teaching / assessing / coaching
Desirable criteria
  • Recent clinical research experience
  • Experience in leadership / management and specialty development
  • Experience of Benchmarking

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
  • Demonstrates excellent team working and motivation
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in leadership / management and specialty development
  • Knowledge of Research Governance Framework (RGF), International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP)
  • Experience of or willingness to deal with conflict and non compliance
  • Experience in risk assessment
