The NCA is excited to announce an opportunity for a dedicated midwife to take on a secondment as our Specialist Midwife for Bereavement. This role is crucial in ensuring the provision of comprehensive bereavement care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal phases for individuals giving birth and their families.
As the Specialist Midwife for Bereavement, you will utilise your professional leadership skills and expert clinical knowledge to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in delivering and enhancing a compassionate and high-quality bereavement care pathway.Key responsibilities will include reviewing existing clinical care pathways and actively engaging in governance processes related to bereavement, including important initiatives such as the Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT) and the MBRRACE-UK (Mothers and Babies: Reducing Risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK).

In this position, you will provide expert support and facilitate staff members in delivering essential information, education, and practical advice to women and birthing individuals facing difficult decisions regarding fetal abnormalities. This involves supporting those who choose to terminate their pregnancies as well as those who opt to continue, including coordinating palliative care when appropriate.
The successful candidate will excel in offering personalised and compassionate care to families, while also contributing to the development of pathways and guidelines related to stillbirth, late miscarriage, medical terminations, and neonatal death.
Additionally, as the Bereavement Specialist Midwife, you will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the national standardised Perinatal Mortality Review Tool (PMRT) and will ensure adherence to the core principles of the National Bereavement Care Pathway.This role is an invaluable opportunity to advocate for bereavement care best practices and to lead initiatives that support families during their most challenging times.
