We are looking for passionate and motivated Pharmacy Technicians to join our well established, friendly and dynamic ward Based Medicine Management Technicians at UHDB

The Medicine Management technicians play an important role, complementing clinical pharmacist and other members of the wider multi-disciplinary team. The successful applicants will rotate around the different speciality wards at the Royal Derby Hospital, these will include Oncology, Medicine, T&O, Surgery, Admissions and the Rehabilitation wards at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital allowing the applicant to gain a wealth of experience and knowledge

Previous experience of working as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting is preferred but not essential.

The Medicine Management Technicians will provide a ward based Medicine Management and Optimisation Service, including medicine reconciliation, patient counselling and ensuring the quality, safety and timely supply of discharge prescriptions.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring the quality, accuracy and safety of prescribing in exciting clinical areas.
  • Support the MDT, including pharmacist, doctors and nursing staff.
  • Obtaining detailed and accurate medication histories from multiple sources and reconciling with the inpatient prescription and communicating any discrepancies.
  • Communicating detailed information to patients & carers about drug doses, indications, side effects and efficacy.
  • Liaising widely (e.g. CCG or GP staff, patients, carers etc) to ensure the timely availability of patient medication.
  • Reviewing inpatient and discharge prescriptions to ensure appropriate prescribing and availability of medicines.
  • Assessing Patients own Drugs for suitability for use in the Trust.
  • Promoting use of Trust and national clinical guidelines and optimising patient medication.
  • Help support quality, safety and timeliness of discharge and to facilitate effective communication of medication around admissions and discharges.
  • Provides a safe and efficient supply of pharmaceutical products to patients. This may involve dispensing and final checking (ACT) of drug products and compliance aids.
