Medical Receptionist
- Full/ Part Time SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Commitment to a high standard of patient care and the professional presentation of the Practice.
- An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.
- An ability to use own judgement, resourcefulness and common sense to respond to patients enquires and requests.
- Essential to have a good level of computer literacy.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- The post holder cannot be registered at the Practice or should be willing to register elsewhere if already registered.
- To provide a highly professional first point of contact for patients at all times.
- To ensure an efficient service for patients.
- To facilitate communication between patients and the Health Care Team.
- To work with the Reception Manager and Reception Navigator in order to identify areas of patient services that can be improved and work towards solutions so that improvements can be made, for the benefit of both patients and the Practice.
- To act on own initiative and be able to work without direct supervision once trained and assessed as competent.
- To take responsibility for own actions within the scope of the delegated tasks and responsibilities.
- To work at all times within own limitations and competencies as agreed with the Reception Manager.
- To provide sickness and annual leave cover when required.
- To provide effective administrative support for the clinical, supervisory and management teams.
- To complete duties effectively within the guidance of protocols.
- Ensure efficiency of surgery appointments and monitor the flow of patients into consulting and treatment rooms.
- Ensure that patients without appointments but who need an urgent consultation are put through to triage correctly or signposted appropriately.
- Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring procedures are completed.
- Respond to all queries and requests for assistance from patients and other visitors.
- Deal with requests for home visits and enter onto the computer system including all relevant information and where necessary refer to the Duty Doctor.
- Ensure reception, consulting/treatment rooms and waiting areas are kept neat and tidy and restocked as directed by the Reception Manager.
- Ensure appropriate actions are taken to protect patient confidentiality at all times.
- Provide a point of contact for patients with enquires related to repeat or other prescriptions and liaise with the prescription clerks.
- Sort and file prescriptions and letters ready for patient collection.
