Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trusts ICT department manages and provides support for approximately 4400 client devices and over 5000 users across 2 hospitals in Birmingham.

We are currently recruiting for the position of a Clinical Application Analyst (B4)

The postholder will be responsible for the broad range of system administration activities, database maintenance, system testing, problem analysis and resolution, training and user support for the suite of ICT Clinical Systems.

The postholder will ensure that all information, irrespective of media, is processed and used in accordance with policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

The ICT Application Analyst will each have responsibility for specific Specialist Clinical Systems in addition to providing cover for each other’s specialist systems and

other general system support. Each Application Specialist will be required to provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) knowledge to their ‘primary systems’.

The Clinical System team must adhere to standard protocols and procedures in order to appropriately support staff and escalate accordingly. Staff are required to provide both expert support and also general user support /training for colleagues outside the ICT Department.

The role will require building strong, effective, collaborative partnerships between internal and external users and suppliers to ensure effective ICT system integration and delivery to realise the required business benefits.

The postholder will be responsible for supporting, and managing the delivery of system upgrades ensuring appropriate change control and authorisation is granted in accordance with policies and procedures.

The postholder will be able to demonstrate experience in the application of project management methodologies and be competent in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer applications, for example MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power point.

Knowledge and Nature of Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability in learning new and complex computer systems.
  • Competent computer user with good keyboard skills.
  • Able to concentrate for extended periods on detailed VDU and other work
  • Experience supporting end user of multiple information systems
  • Experience administering an information system.
  • Experience of participating in business change projects.
  • Experience in analysing user workflows in the context of information systems.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Patient Record solutions.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience supporting information systems in a health care environment.

Analytical and Judgement Skills

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of the principles of project management.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Experience in delivery of systems training.
  • Aptitude for investigating, analysing and solving complex problems

Professional

Essential criteria
  • Self-motivated and highly organized.
  • Ability to act on own initiative and take and implement decisions to resolve problems.
  • Ability to manage own workload and assess, prioritise, and organise work under pressure to manage conflicting deadlines and to manage the workload of others as required.
  • Ability to support staff on the Helpdesk as necessary in the delivery of systems support
  • Ability to support Learning Difficulty Students, Apprentices and Work Experience Students.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of Secondary Education including GCSE or equivalent in English, Mathematics and a Science subject.
  • Educated to A level, equivalent, or extensive experience supporting clinical information systems in a healthcare environment.
  • Evidence of continuous development.
Desirable criteria
  • Professional IT qualifications.
  • PRINCE2 Foundation or ITIL V3.0 Foundation
Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT.
