Job Purpose

Manage and monitor all Media Productions systems on Linux, Windows, Mac and in AWS Cloud.

These process the images, sound and subtitles of our clients’ film and streaming content.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Systems Administration
  • Upon sufficient introduction, manage and monitor all system infrastructure, including Linux and Windows servers, desktops, Mac workstations, and AWS cloud implementations.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Ensure all devices are appropriately configured and patched. Ensure devices utilise managed builds via Puppet, Ansible, Terraform alternative tools.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes as directed by your line manager.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Systems Design and Implementation
  • Participate in the design and implementation of new systems infrastructure using appropriate technologies to effectively match performance, cost, and availability requirements.
  • Ensure effective planning and stakeholder communication on all changes – new implementations or upgrades/updates.
  • Maintain clear documentation.
Issue & Problem Management
  • Assist in managing all systems-related issues, resolving within agreed SLAs or escalating within the Problem Management Framework. Collaborate with third parties to resolve critical problems.
Automation
  • With appropriate guidance, write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Work with Software Development to build and maintain continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Understand and, where appropriate, assist in implementing a containerised approach to application delivery and maintenance.
Implement security standards
  • Meet or exceed industry security standards. Actively participate in security audits, penetration testing, etc. With appropriate training, ensure all systems are appropriately patched and monitored, including active reviews of log data for potential threats.
Collaborative
  • Collaborate closely with other technology functions to ensure our technologies enable MPS to achieve and surpass its goals. The internal teams are System Engineering, Software Development, and Content Operations.
  • Form excellent relationships with MPS customers and major US studios, including UK-based customer leads and US-based security and technical leads, security auditors, and the studio's Trusted Partner Network.

Requirements

Qualifications
  • Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics degree
Experience & Competencies
  • Experience with Media Editing or Creation Technologies
  • Experience with Python (or other similar language)
Skills & Knoweldge
  • Basic understanding of the workings of a computer
  • Knowledge of a Computer Operating System
  • Basic understanding of Cloud Computing with a focus on AWS
  • Simple comprehension of the need for resource and software deployment automation such as Terraform and EKS.
