Full-time 37.5 hours per week
An excellent opportunity has arisen to join the Microbiology Biomedical Scientist team at Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust on a fixed term contract. This 12 month fixed term employment offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated, focused and enthusiastic HCPC registered BMS to further develop their specialist knowledge and skills in Microbiology in a highly commended, and UKAS accredited environment.
The Department is seeking a an individual with suitable qualifications, experience, and a keen interest in Microbiology to support the Laboratory operations

Main duties of the job
Currently Microbiology consists of Consultant Microbiologists, Clinical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
It is a well equipped, highly automated laboratory that includes: MALDI-TOF, BACTEC FX, MGiT TB system, Hologic Panther. PHOENIX identification and susceptibility systems, Cepheid (MRSA, TB, GC, CHLAM, CPE, FLU, CDIFF), Biofire Filmarray and UF-5000 for urinalysis.
Work load is over 300,000 requests per year with samples received from both hospital patients and the community via GP surgeries.
Your role would include: contribution within the Microbiology laboratory, as a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, in the provision of a high quality cost effective clinical service and the development of the service in line with departmental objectives; to fully communicate these improvements to all grades of staff and to train members of staff accordingly.
You will perform routine procedures involving scientific, technical, and interpretive work to aid clinicians in the effective diagnosis and treatment of patients.
The Department is keen to develop all staff and Continuing Professional Development would be wholeheartedly supported by Laboratory Medicine to enable you to reach your full potential.
Oncall, weekend and early/late shift may be required as a routine part of the role.

You would be expected to play a full part in our professional team, communicating well with Consultants, STP’s, Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants but must also be able to work quickly and efficiently on your own initiative.

Reigstration/Qualifications
Essential criteria- HCPC registered
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (or equivalent acceptable to the IBMS/HPC)
Experience
Essential criteria- Microbiology lab experience
