The Paediatric Audiologist provides highly specialised audiological care, including advanced and complex assessment and rehabilitation of hearing impaired children. The role is predominantly based at Royal Stoke. However, there may also be a requirement to work at County Hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Ability to provide appropriate, understandable test instruction to children of all ages and ability. Use of tact and persuasion where barriers to understanding exist, e.g. very young children and children with learning difficulties, or with an uncooperative child.
  • Communicate effectively with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, carers and children of all ages. Able to communicate complex technical information in a meaningful manner, adapting instructions and tests to children of different ages and special needs.
  • Demonstrate reassurance and persuasive skills to gain a childs confidence for invasive procedures e.g. impressions.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and awareness when Sharing the News with children, parents and families e.g. sudden hearing loss or deterioration of existing hearing loss.
  • Liaise with a multidisciplinary team to provide the best outcomes for children, including ENT, TODs, Speech and Language Therapists, Paediatricians

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Audiology or equivalent MSc in Audiology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least two years’ experience of working within paediatric audiology. Possess in-depth knowledge of assessment and rehabilitation techniques of children of all abilities
