Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Motor Vehicle Mechanic needed in Oldham Paying £13.30 per hr ref 0009 7659 /1

• Responsibilities:
• Report to the Workshop Manager for vehicle inspection and testing to meet required standards.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on various vehicles and equipment efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Tasks:

Conduct tests per D.O.T. manual for:

• Hackney carriage and private hire vehicles
• Private motor vehicles and dual-purpose vehicles
• All owned vehicles
• Complete necessary documentation for tests.
• Manage inspection and maintenance of test equipment and inventory accuracy.
• Perform random quality checks on completed work and address sub-standard issues.
• Ensure compliance with safe working practices and health regulations.
• Monitor vehicle examination standards by other examiners.
• Conduct planned service and safety inspections.
• Diagnose faults and recommend cost-effective repairs.
• Repair vehicles and equipment as directed.
• Perform auto electrical repairs.
• Order spare parts as needed.
• Maintain a clean work area.
• Respond to breakdowns and recover vehicles/equipment.
• Occasionally collect spare parts from suppliers.
• Complete time sheets and inspection reports in line with compliance standards.
• Steam clean vehicles before repairs and for testing preparation.
• Transport vehicles to specialist repairers and testing stations, addressing minor issues on-site.
• Repair tools and equipment in the workplace.
• Carry out welding and fabrication repairs.
• Diagnose vehicle defects to assist colleagues and categorize repairs.
