Are you a qualified pharmacist seeking a flexible and rewarding role within the NHS? We are looking for an enthusiastic Bank Pharmacist to join our dynamic Pharmacy team within the Healthy Lives Care Group, serving both University Hospital North Tees and University Hospital Hartlepool.

As a Bank Pharmacist, you will play a key role in providing high-quality pharmaceutical services to both in-patient and out-patient settings across both sites. You will contribute to delivering safe and effective medication management while supporting clinical teams across a variety of specialities.

The position offers flexibility with up to 37.5 contracted hours per week and the opportunity to work across different areas based on the needs of the service.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Pharmaceutical Services: Provide safe, efficient pharmaceutical services, including in-patient and out-patient dispensary cover. You will rotate between different areas depending on service needs and provide extended support during periods of increased demand, such as winter resilience.
  • Clinical Support: Deliver clinical pharmacy services to designated wards, supporting doctors and nurses with expert advice on drug use and treatment strategies. This includes prescription monitoring, therapeutic drug management, and patient counselling.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including general practitioners and community pharmacies, to ensure seamless pharmaceutical care during patient admissions and discharges. You will also support the implementation of safe and evidence-based prescribing practices.
  • Patient Care: Ensure that patients receive timely access to their medications, and oversee the reuse of patients' own drugs and self-administration programs on the wards to promote efficient discharge processes.
  • Training & Development: Act as a mentor to junior pharmacy staff, including pre-registration pharmacists, and contribute to clinical pharmacy training courses for nursing and medical staff. You will also participate in the development and delivery of induction, education, and training programs for other healthcare professionals.
  • Service Development: Assist in the development, planning, and auditing of pharmaceutical services in collaboration with the Directorate Pharmacists and Associate Chief Pharmacist. You will be involved in quality improvement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and reducing expenditure.
  • Compliance: Adhere to the Trust’s policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with health and safety, infection prevention, and safeguarding requirements.

What We Are Looking For:

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • MPharm or equivalent, with current registration as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Post-registration experience, particularly within hospital pharmacy
  • Familiarity with EPMA systems and experience in providing clinical pharmacy services to wards

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Independent Prescriber qualification (or working towards)
  • Previous experience in mentoring and training junior staff

Skills & Attributes:

  • Excellent clinical knowledge, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to manage data effectively
  • Demonstrates leadership and initiative, with a commitment to continuous professional development (CPD)
