We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for Psychology graduates to embark on or advance their careers in education by joining a vibrant school that supports children with Autism and Special Educational Needs (SEN). This role provides valuable experience for those considering careers in educational psychology, social work, or related fields.
Role
As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in the personal and academic development of students with Autism and other additional needs. Working on a one-to-one or small group basis, you will help create a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment that enables pupils to thrive.
Responsibilities:- Provide personalised support to students with Autism and other SEN, facilitating engagement in learning activities.
- Assist with the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
- Foster emotional, social, and academic growth by encouraging positive behaviour and participation.
- Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to deliver inclusive teaching approaches.
- Support personal care needs, including mobility or medical assistance, with training provided.
- Monitor and record student progress, sharing updates with teachers and parents.
- Promote a respectful and inclusive classroom environment.
- A degree in Psychology (or a related field) is advantageous but not essential.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with Autism or SEN is beneficial.
- A passion for supporting students with additional needs and a desire to make a positive impact.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a proactive, solution-focused attitude.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
