The Nutrition and Dietetics Service at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is excited to recruit a diabetes dietitian to work within our acute outpatient services. You will be working within a long established MDT, alongside colleagues who are friendly, approachable, supportive and progressive and who truly value dietitians within their service.

We are looking for an innovative individual who is motivated by MDT working and keen to work in a diabetes specialist services

Main duties of the job

The role involves mainly working with outpatients under the diabetes and antenatal services. You will have a varied and interesting case load of patients with Type 1 diabetes (including newly diagnosed patients), Type 2 diabetes who require insulin and pregnant women with gestational diabetes or Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

Outpatient clinics are structured to promote MDT working and so you will never feel unsupported in your role when managing more complex patients. Our service is a DAFNE accredited centre and is involved in leading a national trial of VICTOR group education.

You will be joining a progressive service with opportunities to be achieve competency as an educator in DAFNE, VICTOR and Roche carbohydrate counting.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree/Diploma in Dietetics.
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of post registration clinical update course or equivalent in relevant subject.
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of British Dietetic Association
  • Membership of the Diabetes Specialist Group of BDA
  • Completion of DAFNE Course
  • Attendance of student supervisory skills course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience of working with patients with type 2, type 1 and gestational diabetes.
  • Experience of working as part of a dietetic team and the wider MDT
  • Experience of training student dietitians
  • Experience of working within the diabetes MDT
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in audit and research
  • Experience of line managing qualified or clinical support staff
