Senior ICU/Critical Care Rehabilitation and Follow-up OT or Physio

Job overview

This is a dynamic role with lots of opportunity for service development within critical care and follow-up. It is a 5-month full-time contract with a possibility of extension. We are also willing to be flexible about the working pattern & could consider a part-time position over a longer time frame.

Under the guidance of the CCRFS Service Lead, OT & Physio Team Lead you will have the opportunity to develop both clinically and managerially within a friendly and supportive environment.

This exciting opportunity provides a role in which your time is protected to be able to focus on acute management, rehabilitation and quality of life interventions. There is a strong emphasis on holistic therapy & interventions to improve quality of life & well-being for our patients.

• As a senior clinician you will be involved in the supervision & education of support staff and students, and you will have the opportunity to lead and be involved in appropriate service development. We are lucky to boast excellent CPD opportunities to develop these skills.
• Provide early assessment and rehabilitation for patients on the ICU and continue throughout their stay in hospital; promoting holistic client centred care

The post holder will:

• Be responsible for identifying early functional goals for patients in the ICU
• Support the MDT in ensuring the rehabilitation pathways, patient diaries, and objective assessments are completed and up to date .
• Supporting with smooth transition for step down by promoting continuation of functional goals and co-ordinating with ward staff to provide detailed handovers.
• Acting as a key worker and providing support to patient and relatives .
• Within the CCRFS, review patients on a comprehensive pathway discharged from critical care within 72 hours
• Active role in service development, especially around promoting best practice delirium management strategies, space for innovative ideas around patient pathways and data collection.
• Close working within an interdisciplinary team, to ensure true holistic, client centred practice.

Person specification

Knowledge

• HCPC registration
• Degree in occupational therapy or physiotherapy

• CSP or RCOT member
• Member of special interest group
• Specific knowledge related to critical care

Experience

• Experience working within NHS
• Experience of acute inpatient rehabilitation
• Experience of working with patients in the NHS who are or have been critically unwell

• Band 6 experience within the NHS
• Rotations including neuro or medical at least at band 5 level

Management

• Experience of participating in a service development project
• Evidence of teaching students, peers etc.

• Experience of supervision
