We are looking for a highly experienced and motivated knowledgeable Therapeutic Radiographer who is looking for an opportunity to join the Brachytherapy team at Plymouth Oncology Centre.

We currently provide a Brachytherapy service to Gynaecological cancers and are looking to expand our services on completion of our exciting new Brachytherapy suite, encompassing our own theatre.

Applicants should have experience in working to a high level of competence within Brachytherapy and work alongside the Brachytherapy Specialist lead Radiographer, deputising where required to provide support.

You will have the ability to manage a brachytherapy treatment unit and have excellent communication and organisational skills to manage a team of staff under pressure and support patients with a consistently high standard of care and empathy.

The ideal candidate will be expected to work collaboratively, have an ambition for excellence and deliver safe brachytherapy to patients undergoing sensitive brachytherapy procedures.

A wide range of radiotherapy experience is required with ability to work autonomously and competency across all aspects of the brachytherapy service including pre- treatment, CT and external beam radiotherapy areas.

Applicants need to have a keen interest in contributing to the future strategic development of the brachytherapy service regarding techniques and service improvement projects and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:-

Be a highly experienced, organised and knowledgeable Therapeutic Radiographer who is registered to practice with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and has experience in working to a high level of competence within the Brachytherapy speciality.

Assist and support the Brachytherapy Lead Specialist to manage all aspects of the Brachytherapy service deputising fully where required.

Confidently and professionally provide expert specialist advice and support in all aspects of Clinical Brachytherapy service.

Assist and participate in current and future development and expansion of the highly specialised Brachytherapy services.

Ensure the safe and competent use of the High Dose rate After loader complying with all policies and procedures set out by the trust and the departmental Quality system along with national legislation (IRR 2017 and IR(ME)R 2017.

Be an operator under IR(ME)R 2017 and work under classified worker status being professionally and legally accountable for own clinical practice.

Have responsibility, in conjunction with the Brachytherapy Lead Specialist, for clinical governance compliance as set out by the trust within the specialised Brachytherapy service.

Actively participate in specialist clinical training and supervision of all junior staff, new staff, students and other health professionals in the Brachytherapy service.

Possess an ambition for excellence and deliver safe and compassionate care.

  • 1 X TRUEBEAM
  • 1X iX
  • 1X Novalis
  • 1X Gammamed plus brachytherapy unit

We have a dedicated team to head up our busy Radiotherapy Support Services area. We also have Radiographers who are trained in consent, radiographer led review and 2 independent non- medical prescribing radiographers.

We routinely support post graduate training for Radiographers, training and skills development, both in-house and through external courses.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent. DCR (T) or BSc (Hons).
  • HCPC Registration Radiographer.
  • Robust CPD profile demonstrating relevant training and life long learning.
  • Proven evidence of education to Masters level or equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Educator training.
  • Teaching/training/coaching/mentoring/auditing qualification.
  • Prescribing qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable experience of brachytherapy treatments and patient preparation.
  • Ability to work as senior member of staff in all areas of the department.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing people successfully.
  • Proven evidence of effective training/supervision/managing of staff.
  • Highly specialised level of current knowledge and clinical experience of Radiotherapy procedures, in particular Brachytherapy and gynaecological Treatment delivery and aftercare, Brachytherapy equipment, planning procedures for palliative patients and cancer pathology and disease patterns
  • Demonstrable high level of computer skills for Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Possess excellent English language communication skills with the ability to communicate and present complex information appropriately and to differing audiences
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience with brachytherapy equipment and ARIA.
  • Demonstrable experience in clinical audit.
  • Demonstrable experience in writing clinical documents.

Essential criteria
  • Ability to teach and educate staff, students and other professional colleagues with different teaching methods appropriate to the needs of each team.
  • Ability to communicate complex information across professional boundaries using effective communication techniques.
  • Ability to prioritise, manage and organise individual and team workload and training needs. Both accommodating planned and unpredictable work patterns.
  • Willingness to challenge poor standards or inappropriate behaviours of care or treatment delivery to safeguard patient well-being and treatment accuracy.
  • Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work as a member of a team or autonomously on own initiative.
Desirable criteria
  • Required to use computer systems and VDU equipment ,use excel, word etc. to produce and analyse documents and spreadsheets for audit and teaching.
