We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a dynamic team at a school in Southampton. The school caters to students aged 11-16 who have faced barriers to learning and are working to overcome challenges related to Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with students who need additional support, helping them to engage in the curriculum, build confidence, and develop essential life skills. You will work in a supportive environment where collaboration with teachers, other LSAs, and support staff is key to meeting the diverse needs of our students. Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Helping students access the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning.
  • Supporting students in developing emotional regulation and coping strategies.
  • Working closely with the SENCO and other staff to monitor and track student progress.
  • Assisting with behavioural management and supporting positive social interaction.
  • Encouraging independence and self-confidence in students.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience of working with children or young people, ideally those with SEMH or SEND needs, is desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and understanding approach, with the ability to respond to challenging situations in a positive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students.
  • A passion for helping students achieve their potential and overcome barriers to learning.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of creating a safe, supportive environment.
  • A willingness to learn, develop and attend training to enhance your skills and knowledge.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
