Job overview

Porter services comprise of operational duties associated with waste, transport, community beds team, mail, support to cleaning services and general hospital porter duty functions.

Contribute to the provision of healthcare for the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) by delivering a porter service which meets all organisational and legislative standards and support the Facilities Unit commitment to quality standards.

Support the Porter Services Supervisor and Porter Team Leader in supervising the provision of Porter Services delivery that is managed from a Facilities Centre based at the hospital and ensuring a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors in accordance with service specifications.

Post holder will be required to perform supplementary duties to respond to service needs and that are appropriate to the Facilities services and in line with their grade.

To assist in developing, maintaining and promoting the highest standards of service delivery and team working practices, and helping to maintain open, effective communication. Ensure a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors.

Main duties of the job

Six positions of 22.5hrs posts have arisen within the Porter Services department based at Prince Charles Hospital for permanent, part time, Porters.

Porters will be required to work rostered weekly shifts to include weekends and Bank Holidays where required.

The role covers the full range of hospital Porter duties and typically this will involve:

  • Patient transfers.
  • The collection and delivery of specimens.
  • Medical gas cylinder delivery and collection.
  • Medical device transfers.
  • Waste management duties.
  • Post Room duties.
  • Driving duties.
  • Mortuary transfers.

Full training will be given to become competent at all tasks.

Knowledge / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Physically able to carry out strenuous Porter duties
Desirable criteria
  • Able to confirm that have worked in a similar role either in or out of NHS
  • Knowledge of Porter duties
  • Knowledge of Manual Handling / or relevant ongoing training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Worked in a similar role before
