This position within our Engineering team will suit a committed and ambitious individual who can demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills combined with commercial awareness and the ability to play their part in growing a dynamic high-performance team.
As part of the Engineering GIS Team, our focus is to provide internal and external customers the training, tools and systems to improve productivity and generate actionable information using geospatial techniques. We look for cost-effective, innovative solutions to automate tasks, build better business processes and generate actionable insights using geospatial data and techniques.
The Geospatial Solutions Developer will be responsible for:
- Identifying opportunities where GIS could benefit internal and external customers.
- Developing routines, tools and plugins using a mix of open-source and proprietary solutions, mainly QGIS, FME and PostGIS.
- Advising a range of disciplines such as ecology, geotechnics, hydrology, drainage, noise, among others on the usage of geospatial data and techniques.
- Providing in-person and remote GIS training to colleagues.
- Performing quality assurance of geospatial data and products.
- Assisting in the creation and maintenance of best practices documentation.
Missions/Main Duties:
Working in collaboration with our engineers and other discipline specialists, the Geospatial Solutions Developer will be involved in a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:
- Gathering requirements for Geospatial development projects
- Developing Python scripts for geospatial analysis and data management
- Developing QGIS scripts and plugins
- Designing QGIS custom forms and dialogs
- Creating and maintaining FME workspaces to automate the ingestion of data from a variety of sources (spreadsheets, text files, CAD files, field observations) into geospatial formats
- Maintenance of a number of datasets on a spatially-enabled database (PostGIS), as well as designing relationships, views and functions
- Automate business processes using tools such Power Automate, FME, GDAL/OGR.
- Assist in the integration of field collection apps, PostGIS and desktop GIS solutions
- Create and maintain training material on geospatial tool and techniques.
- Provide in-person training as well as producing video tutorials for internal training.
- Writing best-practices documents.
An important part of the role will include working with the resources across the projects – from local resources to others based at other design Technical Centres.
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed below, the job holder may be required to perform other
duties assigned by their line manager from time to time.
