The department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has a number of exciting opportunities to offer at Speciality Doctor level to assist/meet the demand for services. Applications are welcome from candidates wishing to work full time in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to help us deliver our continuous programme of service development.There will be 1 permanent position available to work at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, and 3 permanent positions to work at the new West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. We are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals to join our friendly and enthusiastic team.
Educational Supervision
An educational supervisor will be assigned to provide support. Appraisal is carried out at regular intervals, and forwarded to the specialty lead.
Main duties of the job
The Speciality Doctor is responsible to the Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Successful candidates will be encouraged to develop a special interest to complement the other members of the department. In the course of his/her work the job holder will liaise with nursing, professional and technical, social work, managerial and administrative staff.It is be expected that successful candidates may have to work across the two hospital sites (Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven).
The Trust has recognised that there is a national shortage of candidates in some specialities. So, in order to attract suitable candidates to posts which the Trust has defined as hard to fill, the Trust has recently agreed to award a discretionary premia to posts which are specifically agreed by the organisation.This post currently attracts a discretionary recruitment premia of up to 10% (based on basic salary) per annum. This is payable for up to four years and is reviewed by the Trust on an annual basis.

GMC
Essential criteria- Registered with the GMC
- MBBS or recognised equivalent
- Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis)
- MRCOG
- Teaching of junior medical staff, nursing staff.
- Evidence of CPD
