Our well-established Primary School is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, creative and experienced Primary Settlement Teacher to start in late August 2025.
Applicants for the post will have up-to-date knowledge and be experienced primary practitioners, particularly within EYFS and KS1. The successful applicant will be appointed as sole teacher at a settlement school within our 'Camp Education' service in the Falkland Islands, teaching between 4-7 children from FS2 to Year 5.Settlement teachers are part of a wider team of teachers working in rural education and are supported by the team at the main school site in Stanley. Settlement teachers must be able to work autonomously and have very good interpersonal skills that will enable them to integrate effectively with the families and wider community in this rural setting.
This is a unique opportunity to live overseas whilst working within an English school system, opportunities to be a settlement teacher are rare!
We are seeking to recruit a Primary Settlement Teacher who:
- is focused on helping children achieve high levels of progress in a happy and effective learning environment
- is a graduate with qualified teacher status (appropriate age range) who has completed their ECF induction and preferably has at least 1 years' successful teaching experience post ECF
- is experienced across the primary age range, particularly EYFS and KS1
- can demonstrate a thorough recent knowledge of the 2014 English National Curriculum and the EYFS Statutory Framework
- is committed to differentiation and SEND inclusive practice
- can effectively monitor, assess, record and report on pupils’ progress
- can work within and contribute to coaching and mentoring environment
- has good interpersonal skills, is self-motivated and capable of working effectively and autonomously
- possesses secure IT skills and has good IWB knowledge
- is able to contribute to extra curriculum opportunities
- has a sense of adventure

Our school - Infant Junior School and Camp Education (IJS&CE) has the unusual context of delivering education to all primary aged children who live in the Falkland Islands, there are 330 students on roll, aged from 3 to 11 years. It is our aim that all students are supported to reach their potential and become happy, curious and well-rounded individuals with the knowledge and skills they need to be ready to move to our secondary provision at the Falkland Islands Community School, for the next stage of their educational career.Our students are at the centre of all that we do as a school.
Education is delivered through its modern primary school in the capital, Stanley, and to a small number of children who live in the rural areas of the Falkland Islands, via several small settlement schools and the travelling teacher service.This roles is seeking a Settlement Teacher to work at our small school on West Falkland within the small farm based community at Fox Bay.
The Falkland Islands' education system is fully inclusive. The curriculum is based on the National Curriculum for England with a similar approach to teaching and learning. An Executive Headteacher, Principal of Primary, and Principal of Secondary lead the Falkland Islands Schools.The schools have a staffing complement which includes a SENCo, Deputy SENCo, senior leaders, middle leaders and a team of teachers and learning support assistants. Cross phase working supports curriculum development across the 3-16 age range.
