We are recruiting an experienced Registered Nurse to come and deliver a high standard of patient care on the Ophthalmology Department. The Eye Clinic is a very busy, dynamic, friendly department.

You will be expected to work on doctor and nurse led clinics Monday to Fridays between the hours of 08:30 in the morning and 20:30 in the evening.

Ideally you will have at least 18 months NHS experience, as well as ophthalmic experience. You will need to be flexible with the hours that you work in order to cover the service demands.

The nursing team on the Eye Clinic will give you a warm welcome when you join our team. They are friendly, supportive and very dynamic.

You will be working on all the clinics including those carried out in procedure rooms.

The patients who attend the department are of all ages from newborns to the very elderly and you must be able to adapt to their needs. Excellent patient care is essential to uphold the reputation of the department.

The Eye Clinic is one of the busiest departments in the hospital so it is important that you can prioritise your work whilst meeting the needs of the clinics, it can be physically and mentally demanding.

Learning is always encouraged. There are a variety of relevant in-house study days external study days will be considered if it benefits the service.

  • To provide a highstandardof care to patients who are using the ophthalmic services.
  • To be outwardly professional and act as a role model to the Nursing Team and multidisciplinary team.
  • To deputise for senior staff ensuring resources are allocated efficiently and the day to day running of the clinics operate at the usual standard. Also, patient safety must be always maintained and escalated if there are any concerns.

  • To ensure that the patients journey through clinics is smooth.
  • To liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team who may also be working on clinics.
  • To be able to work alone or as part of a team.
  • To address patients respectfully and treat them as individuals.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Act upon any deterioration in the patient’s condition.
  • To work with the multidisciplinary team when discussing patient management.
  • To always provide patient care in accordance with department SOPs and standards and Trust policies
  • Always work within the guidelines set down in Trust policies.
  • Be aware of personal responsibilities surrounding health and safety.
  • Contribute to any initiatives regarding service development and its implementation.
  • Contribute to any departmental audits.
  • To have awareness of all issues relating to clinical governance including risk assessments.
  • To work as a team member and be a role model to new and student nurses.
  • To be able to apply a problem-solving approach to any issues that may arise.
  • To attend meetings in the Senior Sisters absence.
