Advanced specialist clinical pharmacist, paediatrics and maternity - NHS
Job overview
The postholder will provide a highly specialist clinical pharmacy service to paediatrics and maternity and be responsible for ensuring that appropriate mechanisms are in place to promote high quality drug use, effective risk management, clinical governance and adherence to trust policies and guidelines concerning medicines use.
Main duties of the job- To provide a high level of expert clinical pharmacy input as part of the multidisciplinary team within paediatrics and maternity medicine to improve and enhance the quality of patient care. To provide pharmaceutical support and advice to paediatric and maternity inpatients and outpatients.
- To promote best practice through giving proactive advice and supervision on drug use and interactions to inpatient and outpatient clinicians and nursing and midwifery staff, for example by:
- participating regularly in consultant ward rounds,
- being an active participant of relevant clinical teaching sessions
- partaking in relevant directorate meetings
- partaking in relevant governance meetings
- updating clinicians on new developments in pharmacology, auditing drug use
- initiating and auditing the proper use of therapeutic drug monitoring,
- critically appraising new evidence to inform best practice
- To act as a role model for clinical pharmacy practitioners within the trust and to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacy services
- To oversee the safe prescribing and supply of medicines for paediatric and maternity specialties

Person specification
Education and qualifications
Essential criteria- MRPharmS or equivalent
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Post graduate diploma in pharmacy practice of equivalent
- Non medical prescriber
- Advanced qualification in specialist area
- Member of RPS

Experience
Essential criteria- Significant demonstrable experience of working in hospital based pharmacy, and significant experience as a specialist clinical pharmacist in Paediatric/maternity specialties
- Experience working as a Band 7/8a hospital pharmacist
- Experience of managing change and leading service developments
- Experience of writing/implementing clinical guidelines and government directives
- Experience of multidisciplinary working
- Experience of appraising staff and giving feedback
