The father peer support worker role is to work alongside qualified health visitors to ensure that fathers of unborn babies and children to 5 years old are supported to achieve their full potential across north Lincolnshire and Doncaster Areas
The post holder is required to inspire the fathers they work with and to encourage self belief that fathers have an important and unique role which contributes to their own care, especially mental health.The father support worker will work with fathers to build positive relationships with their unborn and young children to enable positive physical emotional and social development of their children’s development.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is required to work with a range of people across the wider
multidisciplinary team. They will be expected to attend multi disciplinary team meetings and act as peer support to the father.
They may be required to support fathers who have been perpetrators/recipients of domestic abuse.They will also communicate with other peer support workers in the children's care group, through peer review meetings where progress within the role can be discussed with others in the similar situation.

If you don't already have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant subject, RDaSH are offering this post alongside the opportunity for you to complete a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification [relevant to your role].
As an apprentice within RDaSH you will be given the opportunity to gain experience, learn work-related skills and obtain all the tools needed to thrive.
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Around 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying. This leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria- English and Maths at level 2 or equivalent (GCSE 9-4 or A*- C or functional skills level 2)
- Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of peer support
- NVQ/QCF Level 2 in a related subject
- NVQ level 3 in related subject or willingness to undertake a relevant Level 3 Apprenticeship
Experience
Essential criteria- Lived experience of being a supportive and engaging father
- To understand the local needs and be within the local areas of Doncaster and North Lincolnshire
- Experience with working with children
- Experience of working within health and social care community
- Experience of working in the public sector
- Experience of training, teaching, coaching mentoring others
- Experience of working across different organisational boundaries
- Experience of working across different cultural boundaries
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Understanding and practical experience of being a supportive and engaging father
- Knowledge and commitment to service users rights
- Understanding of the impact on father's identity when extra support is required for them
- To have an appreciation of community resources Understanding of the issues and concerns of fathers who are perpetrators of domestic abuse and how this can impact on child's wellbeing Knowledge of local policies in respect of safeguarding children and the protection of vulnerable adults
Skills
Essential criteria- Presentation skills
- Computer literate in software applications
- Able to manage conflict and to help others to do so
- Ability to maintain a healthy home/work life balance
