We're looking for dedicated Catering Assistants to join our team at Sheffield Children's Hospital. You'll help deliver high-quality catering services to staff, visitors, and patients across our catering outlets.
Current opportunities
Permanent x 1 - 30 hours per week, working evenings
Permanent x 1 – 21 hours per week, working evenings
Permanent x 1 - 20 hours per week, working days
Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Catering Manager, you will:
- Clean and store utensils, equipment, and retail area items
- Present, and serve basic food and drink items (e.g., sandwiches and salads)
- Safely dispose of food waste while observing food hygiene standards
- Monitor and record temperature controls for food and drink storage
- Replenish and document food and drink stock in retail and vending areas
- Serve customers, including patients, families, colleagues, and visitors, while providing a welcoming and high-quality service
- Operate the till, processing and handling payments

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria- Level 2 (GCSE or Functional Skills) qualification in Maths and English or equivalent experience
- Food hygiene certificate or to be completed during induction
Experience
Essential criteria- Experience of customer service or food preparation in a retail catering environment
Knowledge & Skills
Essential criteria- Knowledge of food hygiene requirements in a catering environment
- Knowledge of infection control procedures e.g. MRSA, Hand Hygiene, COSHH
- Able to support families in a compassionate way, using different methods of communication to suit the situation, and know when and where to refer someone to
- Able to manage different tasks, prioritising workload throughout the day
- Work effectively as part of a team and coordinate with different team members
- Computing skills, including the ability to use software relevant to the role e.g. till operation
