This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and inspiring Chemistry Teacher to join the Science Department at St Lawrence College.

The successful candidate will possess excellent academic credentials to enable them to teach full-time within our dynamic and supportive School. The Science Department is incredibly well-resourced, in a new building, and has both subject specialists as well as those who can teach across the Sciences.

This role would suit an outstanding, experienced Chemistry Teacher with a passion for their subject. We will also consider an ECT with a positive, proactive approach to teaching and learning (we will provide the full statutory induction). The School is also able to train new entrants to the profession.

Regardless of the level of experience, a deep vocational commitment to teaching and learning is essential.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled classroom practitioner with experience of teaching Chemistry to A level and they should also be able to teach the other science disciplines at KS3 (with the ability to teach another science at KS4 desirable).

Most importantly, they should be passionate about their subject and unstinting in their desire to pass on their enthusiasm to eager and receptive pupils, inside and outside the classroom.

St Lawrence College has a long record of providing an excellent academic education within a supportive community. We have recently entered the High-Performance Learning (HPL) Fellowship of World Class Schools and our aim is to maximise the performance of every pupil, ensuring that they leave school equipped with the knowledge, skills and qualities that will serve them well for university, the workplace and life.

The School's ongoing programme of academic development, working with High Performance Learning, is informed by a wealth of evidence that a child's intelligence is not fixed but can be grown, and that high performance in education is achievable by every pupil.
Teaching practices at St Lawrence College are underpinned by research evidence and teachers are expected to engage with the latest developments in educational pedagogy as part of their professional development, with the School providing developmental and research opportunities throughout the academic year.

The School also belongs to the East Kent Schools Together (EKST) network and therefore encourages staff to be involved with the relevant opportunities available to optimise student learning with like-minded colleagues within this partnership.

The successful candidate will have a desire to work in a thriving co-ed Boarding and Day School, as all colleagues are expected to act as a pastoral tutor, attached to a day or boarding house, and should be willing to be involved with the wider life of a busy boarding and day School.

Applicants should complete the Staff Application Form which can be accessed directly from our website: www.slcuk.com and send it via email to the HR Department: hr@slcuk.com.

Applications will be considered upon receipt; therefore, early applications are encouraged.

The College reserves the right to interview and appoint before the closing date.

Closing Date: 24 April 2024

Interview Date: Week commencing 5 May (although earlier applications may result in earlier interview dates).

St Lawrence College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening including checks with past employers, prohibition orders and enhanced DBS Disclosure.

St Lawrence College is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to a work environment that supports, inspires and respects all individuals without discrimination on the basis of a protected characteristic of any kind.
