An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join the Macmillan Gastrointestinal Cancer Specialist Nursing Team at Harrogate District Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the well-established Macmillan GI Nursing Team and working alongside the wider multi-disciplinary team, offering specialist nursing input for patients diagnosed with a GI cancer.
Our service within Harrogate provides clinical nursing expertise, advice and support to patients, families and carers throughout their pathway, minimising the impacts of diagnosis and treatment and managing ongoing follow-up and consequences of treatment so that patients can have a good quality of life living with and beyond cancer.The successful candidate will be highly motivated and driven to improve patient care and experience so that is personalised and addresses the concerns of the patient and their family.
This one year fixed term full time post will have access to the wide ranging support and development offered through Macmillan Cancer Support.

Main duties of the job
To provide a specialist nursing service and support delivery of a co-ordinated and comprehensive service for patients with Gastrointestinal cancers including Colorectal, Gastric, Oesophageal, Pancreatic and Liver cancers in compliance with national cancer standards.
To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients and their relatives/carers at all stages of the cancer pathway.
To deliver and maintain high standards of care.
To support the continued development of nurse led services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To act as the Key Worker for a caseload of patients as agreed with the GI Cancer CNS Team Leader.
To provide appropriate support, information, education, advice, and counselling with regard to all aspects of their illness and possible investigation/treatment modalities at all stages of the pathway.
To act as the patient's advocate, particularly when informed discussion may lead to choices being made concerning investigation/treatment options. Assist in the process of attaining informed consent. Contribute to MDT meetings and treatment/care planning decisions.
To work closely with other Health Care Professionals to ensure that all aspects of patient/carer’s needs are met, linking with palliative care and supportive care providers and social services appropriately.
To continue to develop and liaise with other units/centres to ensure continuity of care and support for patients referred on for further investigations/treatment.
Provide advice and support to health professionals within the Trust and Primary Care in relation to GI Cancer treatment side effects, complications and management and ensure liaison with appropriate members of the MDT.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- Registered General Nurse
- First level degree in related subject or willing to undertake a degree pathway.
- Evidence of continued professional. development including GI or Oncology.
- Evidence of master’s level learning or prepared to work towards
Experience
Essential criteria- Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 or above in Oncology or GI Services.
- Experience of multi professional working.
- Ability to support and influence change.
- Experience of audit and research
- Experience of patient involvement/feedback initiatives
