Job overview

We are pleased and excited to advertise for a suitably qualified Speech and Language Therapist to work within our Adult Learning Disability, Speech and Language Therapy team.

The post would suit a newly qualified Speech and Language Therapist, or an existing band 5 therapist looking to further their skills and experience. We are a small and friendly team of Speech and Language Therapists working with adults with learning disabilities as well as adults in the community.

The post involves the assessment and management of adults who have a learning disability and communication and/or swallowing difficulties.

You must have a Speech and Language degree qualification and be registered with the HCPC. The ability to drive and have access to a car for work purposes is essential.

There are regular clinical team meetings and personal development planning to meet CPD needs, with regular management and clinical supervision. We also arrange regular social activities and team challenges.

Qualifications and Professional Training

Essential criteria
  • SLT degree or recognised equivalent
  • Registered Member of RCSLT
  • Registered member of HCPC

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience in adult clients with communication and/or swallowing disorders
  • Can demonstrate theoretical knowledge about communication difficulties in several client groups
Desirable criteria
  • Additional work experience with members of the public
  • Awareness of total communication
  • Knowledge of the local area

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Can apply knowledge to clinical experience
  • Demonstrate awareness of Continuing Professional Development
  • Demonstrate good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
  • Computer Skills
  • Access to transport for work purposes
Desirable criteria
  • Understands and can use the principles of prioritisation.
