The Learning Lead – Funding, is responsible for administering funding in a manner that guarantees a robust audit trail and assures equity of access throughout the Trust for all staff. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the CPD panels and providing advice and guidance to staff on funding applications and development opportunities.

The education funding landscape has been changing rapidly and will continue to do so with the emergence of new funding streams, career pathways, apprenticeships and regional and national workforce agendas. This role will be pivotal in ensuring that the service is well prepared to advise staff and managers and adapt to change.

The post holder will plan and prioritise own work load to facilitate the funding of external programmes of learning and resources to ensure individual, team and organisational development plans are achieved and will keep informed of the latest changes to education funds to ensure activities are in line with guidelines and all funding avenues are explored and utilised.

Main duties of the job

This role is responsible for supporting the design and delivery of a range of learning and development interventions across the organisation, helping to improve organisational culture in line with our PRIDE values and MTW Leadership Behaviours and promoting Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust as the employer of choice.

The post holder will work closely with Divisions in relation to continued professional development, leadership development, team and personal development, talent management and succession planning and associated engagement activities.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust in the south-east of England.

We provide a full range of general hospital services and some aspects of specialist and complex care to around 600,000 people living in West Kent and East Sussex. We have a team of over 8,000 full and part-time staff. We also provide specialist cancer services to around 2 million people across Kent and East Sussex via the Kent Oncology Centre.

Fordcombe Hospital is near Tunbridge Wells and became part of the Trust in October 2024. It focusses on planned care and has two operating theatres, 28 inpatient and day care beds, diagnostic services including X-ray, MRI, CT and endoscopy, and a number of consultation and treatment rooms.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in related area or equivalent level of knowledge based on experience.
  • Coaching/Mentoring qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Accounting qualification
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent L&D qualifications
  • Recognised Leadership and Management qualification at diploma level or equivalent.
  • Accredited to deliver behavioural tool i.e. MBTI, EQ, Insights, Lumina

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of NHS educational functions and structures
  • Experience in managing and administering education resources
  • Experience in managing a budget and monitoring financial information
  • Experience in designing databases to store and monitor information
  • Experience of managing external training providers/suppliers and contracts
  • Designing, delivering and evaluating training programmes and other learning and development interventions in a large multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Supporting the delivery of staff engagement events and activities including focus groups
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in a in a People/HR/L&D/OD function

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to gain and maintain credibility and establish good working relationships with people at all levels
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Proven track record in creating robust LNA/TNA and developing fit for purpose business solutions
  • Proven track record in measuring and evaluating ROI and commercial benefit
  • Advanced keyboard skills and IT literate including: Word, PowerPoint Excel, E-mail and internet
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to manage highly complex, sensitive or contentious issues/situations.
  • Demonstrable ability to autonomously manage areas of work and projects from initiation to completion
Desirable criteria
  • Detailed, up to date knowledge of a wide range of subject areas including: Leadership and Management, Team Working/Building, Personal Effectiveness and Communication skills
