Job overview

Barts Cancer Centre has an international reputation as a service dedicated to treating patients with both common and rarer cancers. We provide an integrated service to over one and a half million people in north east London, Essex and further afield, ensuring they have access to high quality, specialist cancer care.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team and make a difference as a Deputy Service Delivery Manager for the Solid Oncology and Chemotherapy services at the Barts Cancer Centre on a one year fixed-term contract. Working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team you will be integral to the provision of a safe, effective, and high quality care for patients being treated at the Barts Cancer Centre.

The post-holder will support the Service Delivery Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational management of our Chemotherapy Day Units. The post-holder will also drive and deliver efficiency and productivity in these areas, as well as supporting improvement projects.

The ability to forge close working relationships with administration and clinical staff is essential to the post. The post holder will also be required to excel at multitasking, prioritisation and excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

The post offers a variety of experience across multiple specialties and offers an excellent opportunity to develop management skills and experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that services are efficiently and effectively run at the

St Bartholomew’s site. This will be achieved through excellent human resource, financial and performance management, and leadership of change management to achieve improvement in process and patient outcomes.

The post holder will also take the lead on specific modernisation and transformation issues. The post holder will also be operationally responsible for designated areas of the Solid Oncology and Chemotherapy .

The post holder will be responsible for meeting both the service’s objectives and the strategic corporate objectives of Barts Health, providing management support to staff within their areas of management. The role will also focus on the development and implementation of projects working within tight time scales when required.

The Deputy Delivery Manager will deputise, where appropriate for the Service Delivery Manager in their absence.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous managerial experience in a large and complex organisation preferably within the NHS
  • Proven experience analysing and interpreting performance data
  • Proven experience in service improvement and development
  • Understanding of 18 week and cancer pathways
Desirable criteria
  • Experience managing chemotherapy admin team , knowledge of booking rules, pharmacy rules and drug regimes .
  • Cerner knowledge
  • A proven record of success in managing change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.

Qualifications

  • Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to liaise, negotiate and influence effectively at Divisional management and all senior levels.
  • Quality focussed with an innovative approach and the ability to solve complex problems
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages
