You have the exciting chance to join our band 6 internal rotation. We have a full-time permanent post on offer that will give you the opportunity to work in our Neuro/Critical Care, Specialist Medicine, Stroke and acute paediatric teams.

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) services at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) have undergone significant transition over the last few years. The SLT service for the acute paediatric/neonatal service has merged with the service for the Adult acute and neuro-rehabilitation beds.

This has created exciting opportunities around how the service is delivered.

The posts will allow the post holders to develop knowledge and skills working with a wide range of patients across different specialties including regional services. There will also be the opportunity to develop advanced dysphagia management skills in video fluoroscopy and FEES.

We are a friendly and supportive team with a high level of clinical expertise. There are strong links with the wider MDT and community SLT services. There will be opportunities to develop leadership skills through participate in projects and delivering training.

There may be an additional requirement to work on the weekend and bank holidays as part of a rota.

To independently manage, triage and prioritise own caseload as part of a team, providing specialist SLT assessment and intervention based on evidence based practice for people with communication and/or swallowing difficulties, supporting their families, carers and other professionals.

There will be opportunities to develop and delivery training and supervise and support band 5 and assistant Speech & Language Therapists.

NUH is a large teaching hospital, across 2 sites: Queens Medical Centre and City Hospital. The SLT service works across both sites covering the adult and paediatric/neonate wards, working alongside a separate ENT service. We work across a very broad range of acute specialties including Healthcare of the Older Person, Respiratory, and Critical Care.

NUH host a number of regional services including Neurosciences unit, Major Trauma Centre, a comprehensive Stroke unit, Trent Cardiac centre, Burns Unit and Upper GI services. We also have SLTs within the Neuro-rehabilitation unit, the MDT neuro-rehabilitation outpatient services, and an SLT service for Neurology outpatients.

Role Purpose

To provide a high quality Speech and Language Therapy service at Nottingham University Hospital Trust in a wide variety of settings.

Role Context

The role requires clinical and professional expertise in order that those with speech, language and communication needs and/or dysphagia needs benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective speech and language therapy service within the designated specialism/setting.

To represent the Speech and Language Therapy service at agreed forums as required.

Knowledge, training and Experience

Degree in speech and language therapy.
HCPC registration.
Registered member of RCSLT.
Completed RCSLT NQT competencies and, dysphagia competencies.

Full driving license and access to a car for work purposes.
