The Trustees are looking to recruit to the post of

Class Teacher (SEN) with TLR for Curriculum Lead in Maths

New Bridge School, Hollinwood

Teachers’ Pay Range with Fixed Term TLR and SEN allowance

Commencing as soon as possible

If you’re the kind of person dedicated to improving the lives of children, you’re just the person New Bridge is looking for.

Why New Bridge?
  • We are committed to making a difference where it matters most to create meaningful futures for all
  • We invest in developing talent through our strong focus on coaching and training.
  • We nurture teams: fostering a sense of belonging secured by strong purpose and healthy relationships.

As we are a talent first organisation, we are always looking to find people who align themselves to our mission and values. If you feel that could be you then we would love to hear from you.

Part of the wider New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT), New Bridge School is a generic special needs school for pupils and students between the ages of 11 and 19 across three sites within Oldham. The school is popular with families both in Oldham and the surrounding boroughs and our numbers are increasing year on year.

The school is an Outstanding rated provision which caters for 369 pupils with a wide range of SEND, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties, including severe and complex learning difficulties; physical disabilities, multisensory impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments and autism spectrum conditions.

All pupils have an EHC plan.

We are excited about being able to expand our teaching roles and create new vacancies to meet the needs of our new pupils. Due to a colleague being promoted into another position in the school, the Trustees are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our dynamic, growing and committed staff team in the following area:

Main Body Class Teacher

Our main body provision is for pupils who are working towards a destination of being independent or working with support in their community. With this in mind the curriculum is underpinned by the intent to maximise the ability for every pupil to live as independently as possible.
To achieve this, we seek to offer an engaging, fun and relevant curriculum that is flexible to the needs of our pupils, and which reflects EHCP outcomes and supports their wellbeing. In the main body we implement this through a blended model where 70% of lessons are delivered by the class teacher, including English, Maths, Science, Living Skills and RSE.

A deliverer with Primary Level experience would suit this role well. Other Enrichment subjects such as Art, PE, Music and Cooking are delivered by subject specialist teachers. The group size of pupils in the main body range from 10-13 with at least one or two TA’s depending on the needs of the pupils.

With TLR for Math’s Lead

As Maths Lead you would be responsible for implementing our teaching and Learning Model in the main body at Key Stage 3. You would also work collaboratively with the Leads for the Autism Base and Interactive Base to ensure that Maths within their teaching and learning models is accurate, comprehensive and matched to the needs of their pupils.

At New Bridge we believe that a high-quality Maths education develops functional Maths skills, problem solving and reasoning skills and an understanding of the world that supports independent living and employment. We intend all pupils to experience a sense of enjoyment and curiosity in their study of this subject.

The New Bridge Maths Curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils within the Main Body:

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately
  • Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
  • Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions
As Curriculum Lead for Math’s your team would primarily consist of the KS3 form tutors who deliver this, and you would be working with these colleagues to develop and implement an engaging curriculum which supports the achievement of Destinations for these pupils.

You would work collaboratively with the deliverers from other provisions to provide support and training if required.

Previous experience of teaching SEN pupils is advantageous, but not essential to apply for this role. We can support the successful candidate to develop the specialist knowledge required to teach our pupils. We are an organisation who are committed to the professional development and well-being of our staff.

We aim to support staff to achieve their own meaningful futures alongside our pupils and have established successful progression routes for them.

This post would suit a primary specialist as the cognitive levels of our pupils in the main body are similar to those of a Primary setting. We would also welcome secondary practitioners with an interest in widening their teaching repertoire in a SEN setting.

We would also be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector. This is also an exciting opportunity for a teacher with mainstream experience who can demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting SEND pupils and is looking to work for an organisation which provides opportunities for professional development and progression.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent practitioner with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development
  • Have experience of teaching young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector or have a specific interest in developing their teaching skills in a special school setting.
  • Have high expectations of young people, and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure that they can achieve their full educational potential
  • Have experience of enhancement of pupil progress gains and raising attainment and achievement levels of all students
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons which meet individual needs
  • Have experience of current assessment practice and the use of data and pupil progress tracking to ensure that all groups of learners achieve
  • Possess the emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs
  • Be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
  • Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community
  • Be hard working, organised and proactive in their professional development
  • Be a team player who can work effectively with all members of the New Bridge team

The post will be based initially at New Bridge School in Hollinwood, however, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group.

We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment.

This post will be subject to a number of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. It will be exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

DBS Code of Practice which can be viewed here.

For successful candidates, an online search will be carried out as part of our due-diligence in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023.

We strive to create a fair and inclusive workplace that is as diverse as the communities we serve. We positively welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
