The primary purpose of this role is to support and deliver education and training for the acute hospital workforce specifically about supporting people who have a learning disability and/or Autism when they are in hospital. The job holder will support and educate staff in their clinical role, to deliver high quality evidence-based care for service users who have a learning disability or who are autistic.
The postholder will identify opportunities and deliver informal, formal, bespoke, general, large group and small group training in order to pursue excellence in care for this patient cohort and to work towards reducing known health inequalities for this patient group.
They will support the development of Learning disability and Autism Training programmes, maintain records of training as appropriate, support ward and departmental sisters/charge nurses to identify training needs and support mandatory training levels to be compliant with Trust standard.
They will have a role in further developing the mandatory training for Learning disability and Autism offered by the trust. They will use the most recent evidence base for their training development and access support from the Liaison team and the wider regional learning disability network.
The post holder will be working with key professional groups throughout the acute trust services. The post holder will be a key member of the Learning Disability and Autism Acute liaison team and will work collaboratively with the team to identify need, develop and facilitate workforce education across the acute trust sites.
The post holder may be required to work directly with patients and their carers to support the teams capacity when this is needed. The post-holder will provide Learning disability/Autism healthcare specific knowledge as part of the MDT. The post holder will engage, enable and empower others across the acute trust services to establish high-quality, compassionate, person-centred healthcare for our patients who have a learning disability or are Autistic.
The post holder will be required to evaluate consistently to measure the impact of educational programmes and disseminate the results in a clear way. Support and deliver learning disability and autism aspects at local induction training for new staff and students to the directorates.
