We are looking for an inspirational and enthusiastic peripatetic singing teacher to join our thriving Music Department as soon as possible.

This position would suit a teacher who can engage and motivate pupils from beginner to diploma level; a teacher who will challenge and champion their pupils, finding ways for them to learn and grow as individual musicians whilst feeling supported and enjoying the process.

Music plays a very significant role in the life of the School and the Department has an excellent reputation in the local area.

The role will involve teaching individual singing lessons to approximately 16 students in the first instance, with the capacity to build up student numbers upon demand. This equates to approximately 10 hours of teaching per week.

Sir William Perkins’s Music Department

The Music Department has two full-time teachers assisted by a Music Administrator, plus a team of highly committed peripatetic teachers, most of whom are very involved in the wider musical life of the School.

The Department is housed in a purpose-built Performing Arts Centre consisting of a 120-seat Recital Hall, two well-equipped music classrooms with computers running Sibelius and Cubase software and a good number of practice rooms.

All students in Years 7-9 take time-tabled music, and it is offered as an option to GCSE and A-level with excellent results.

The School attracts a large number of talented students and music scholarships are offered for entry into Year 7 and the Sixth Form.

Many students receive over 150 instrumental lessons in School. The Department prides itself on its well-qualified and experienced instrumental teachers, many of whom run School music ensembles and chamber groups.

The School hosts its own ABRSM music examinations and the management of the exam entries and timetable.

There is a programme of co-curricular groups which many of our students are involved in.

There are regular School and chamber concerts and a series of lunchtime recitals.

Sir William Perkins’s School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all teachers, staff and contractors to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be expected to complete an enhanced DBS disclosure.
