Physician Associate to the Myeloma service

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical/Professional Review patients in triage, ward, day unit and myeloma clinic and facilitate subsequent management of their care in conjunction with the haematology team. Order appropriate investigations, interpret results, form a list of differential diagnoses, and recommend treatment accordingly.
Identify and consent patients for myeloma biobanking, working in conjunction with senior colleagues. Perform pertinent assessments for all patients along with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes Perform diagnostic procedures subject to training and experience.
These include (but not exclusively) bone marrow aspirates/trephines and venepuncture. Ensure documentation is legible and clear Ensure all pathway documentation is completed according to the Trust Guidelines Consolidate, develop and maintain specialist medical knowledge.
Keep up to date with current guidelines and maintain best practice. Communicate the outcome of clinical encounters to GPs and other health professionals in a timely fashion. Foster good relationship by working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team Present/participate in weekly myeloma multi-disciplinary meeting, which may involve record keeping.
Organisational Complete Trust Statutory and Mandatory training as required Ensure annual appraisal is completed and agreed by the line manager at least once a year , with a personal development review meeting where progress made over the previous 6 months is discussed.
Use the Trust values based appraisal process. Report all actual and potential clinical incidents involved in accordance with the Trusts reporting procedures for untoward events using the electronic reporting system (ULYESSES). Escalating issues or concerns immediately to the responsible consultant or senior nurse.
Attend the monthly departmental Clinical Governance meeting which includes mortality and morbidity review To take a proactive approach in the prevention and management of complaints and when they occur, escalate and support investigation in accordance with the OUH NHS Foundation Trust complaints policies To ensure effective and up to date IT skills are maintained in order to be able to fully use Trust IT systems.
Education and Research Maintain knowledge and proficiency in medical practices through continuing education, staff meetings, and workshops. Participate/Lead Quality improvement/ Research project within the department Assist in the development and mentoring of the UK Physician Associates as the profession progresses.
Assist in the educational development of Physician Associate students through student shadowing and/or teaching. OUH/Clinical Haematology will encourage applicants to attend teaching sessions, perform audits and promote the PA profession within the department and trust OUH has a strong history of furthering education and knowledge.
As part of the trust, you will be expected to complete your 25 hours of Type 1 CPD training each year, as specified by the Faculty of Physician Associates. We encourage participation in the National Physician Associate conference as well as 'other relevant conferences' (if deemed appropriate based on agreement with your supervisor).

Postholder will be provided computer access and funding for attending relevant training courses, myeloma meetings and consumables will be considered. The post holder will be expected to maintain compliance with all required research and departmental policies and procedures, and undergo such training as to maintain compliance
