This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, capable and motivated individual to join the Lumbar Spine Pathway administrative team as a part time medical secretary.
The role is interesting and demanding, and will require someone who is flexible, able to work well within a busy environment, and can demonstrate their ability to prioritise and organise their workload.
The ideal candidate must have a flexible 'can do' attitude and the ability to use own initiative with excellent communication/interpersonal and IT skills.
The working hours will be Monday - 7.5 hours, Tuesday 7.5 hrs and Wednesday - 6.75 hours per day.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
Main duties of the job- To provide the booking, administrative and secretarial support for the Lumbar Spine Pathway.
- To provide daily coordination and organisation of referrals received into the pathway ensuring appropriate booking process takes place. To provide support and preparation of notes for clinics.
- To provide typing service for all resulting correspondence.
- Supervise and line manager support secretary/admin assistant

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- To be responsible for the administrative and secretarial services to the Lumbar Spine Pathway service.
- To take appropriate action with regard to telephone calls from patients, GPs and other Agencies using initiative within broad guidelines outlined by trust and departmental policies.
- Dealing face to face with patients, carers and other professional visiting the department, dealing appropriately with their enquiries and seeking advice when necessary.
- Prioritise own workload including typing, management of appointments and waiting lists, collection of statistics. Provide guidance for other staff regarding prioritisation of their tasks.
- To manage the waiting list for Lumbar Spine Pathway (within local parameters taking appropriate action if deviations occurs).
- To support ESP in all systems relating to pathway.
- To arrange appointments clinics using Choose and Book and iPM Waiting list management system.
- To co-ordinate the speciality waiting lists and adhere to the Waiting List Policy

Knowledge
Essential criteria- Previous demonstrable A&C experience
- Demonstrable recent audio + copy typing experience
- Previous demonstrable experience of appointment systems and waiting list policy
- Demonstrable Bighand experience
- Previous demonstrable experience of waiting list management using patient management systems
Qualifications
Essential criteria- 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A – C grade) or equivalent qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
- OCR 3 standard or equivalent
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria- Ability to accurately touch and audio type
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work calmly and methodically in a busy working environment with a busy and varied workload
- Time management skills
