We are looking for an experienced Children’s Speech and Language Therapist to cover a maternity leave within our Complex Needs team, which includes social communication. The role will involve the delivery of social communication assessments and interventions with early years aged children and the delivery of training to parents/carers and colleagues.

You will be part of a well-established and experienced group of SLTs, and the role will be based within clinic and home settings in Salford.

Salford Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service provide CPD, supervision, support and mentoring from a range of experienced SLTs across the service. You will be part of a large, friendly, supportive team who are passionate about ensuring that all children and families receive appropriate and timely therapeutic and preventative interventions that aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Due to the nature of the post you will need to be able to travel to different sites as required by the service.

Main duties of the job
  • Working collaboratively with parents/carers and setting staff to support children with social communication differences.
  • To produce reports outlining the finding of the assessments and child/young person's needs and next steps (including for statutory purposes, e.g. EHCP assessments).
  • Delivering interventions and modelling strategies.
  • Demonstrating clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence based practice and outcome measures.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of training packages to parents/carers and setting staff

Essential criteria
  • HCPC registration - license to practice
  • Member of RCSLT

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses
  • Full driving license (car owner/driver essential)

Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate excellent specialist knowledge in a wide range of paediatric communication disorders which is underpinned by current evidence based practice.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience working in Early Years.
  • Good planning organisational, caseload management and prioritisation skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of up to date assessment tools relevant to client group
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Ability and commitment to deliver training packages
  • Basic IT skills
  • Good presentation skills both written and verbal
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with children and young people with complex communication and/or social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Have attended Talking Mats Training (Foundation Stage)
  • Hanen More Than Words Trainer
