The Nutrition and Dietetic Service at Lister Hospital offers an opportunity for a dietitian to join their adult team. You will jointly provide leadership, management and mentorship for the acute dietitians alongside another lead whilst retaining a clinical caseload.

You will also assist in facilitating student training.

You will provide a service to parenterally and enterally fed patients and the intensive care unit and contribute to a weekly nutrition round as part of an MDT.

In addition, you will have a small home enteral feeding caseload working closely with other members of the team, as well as enteral feeding nurses to deliver a specialist service to patients in their own homes and care homes.

This position is part of a larger team of Dietitians serving Hertfordshire, spanning various specialties e.g. paediatrics, neurology, and oncology. We collaborate with other Trusts and stakeholders to provide comprehensive dietetic care to patients in Hertfordshire.

We offer support for your professional development, including appraisal, mentoring, and training opportunities. Contributing to the training of student dietitians from the University of Hertfordshire is another rewarding aspect of this role.

Our service is backed by a team of administrators and dietetic assistants, and there are excellent IT facilities to facilitate mobile working.

Main duties of the job
  • Lead the acute dietetic team along side another lead to deliver a dietetic service to Lister Hospital.
  • Provide mentorship for the acute team and participate in appraisals.
  • Attend MDT meetings, building relationships with the wider multidisciplinary team whilst promoting the service.
  • Hold a clinical caseload and cover in times of staff absence.
  • Participate in the planning and delivery of student training.
  • Assist in resource and policy development.
  • Participate in / facilitate audit and development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To lead, manage and supervise a team of acute dietitians working with adults at Lister Hospital. To support other Dietetic staff working within Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust.
  • To have responsibility whilst working as a job share, to organise and deliver a comprehensive highly specialised clinical dietetic service at Lister Hospital
  • To contribute on issues related to nutrition with the relevant multidisciplinary teams.
  • To provide clinical leadership, collaborating with stakeholders and peers, and represent the Nutrition and Dietetic Service on working parties associated with this.
  • To work as an independent practitioner using a specialist level of knowledge and skills in the provision of a dietetic service to a caseload of inpatients, including contributing to Nutrition ward round.
  • To work as an independent practitioner using a specialist level of knowledge and skills in the provision of a dietetic service to a small caseload of adults on home enteral nutrition across East and North Hertfordshire

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics degree or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Attained or working towards a postgraduate qualification in a specialist area or evidence of significant experience in a specialist area
  • Evidence of management training
Desirable criteria
  • Member of British Dietetic Association

Experience and knowledge
