The Ophthalmology service is a very busy outpatient based department specializing in the care of patients with eye related problems including surgical intervention. We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic individual to the role of Housekeeper.

This role is integral to developing environmental standards for the care of patients. You will be pivotal in supporting the senior sister in the management of the environment and focus on reaching standards that are important aspects of care, such as, stock ordering, cleanliness, catering services and maintenance of a safe, comfortable environment.

You would be working alongside other staff to maintain the high standards within the service.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed for liaising with staff, patients and relatives.

The post holder will work as part of the Nursing Team and take on the non- clinical tasks the team is responsible for. These tasks will be specified by the manager.
  • To give excellent customer service
  • Explain/ demonstrates own role and duties to new members of staff.
  • Completes environmental audits
  • Escalates any concerns to Senior Nurse
  • Respects confidentiality at all times
  • To receive and pass on information to others taking into account confidentiality and data protection policies.
  • To be aware of new policies or changes to standards i.e.: food hygiene or waste categories.
  • Answer the telephone as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Ordering / Stock Management
  • Order pathology supplies, manage stock levels and monitor expiry dates
  • Order linen and keep linen cupboard tidy
  • Order the stores required for the department
  • Order of free refreshments for staff and for the patients
Cleaning
  • Prepare in collaboration with the nursing team, clinical rooms used by the nursing team and by the doctors every morning prior to any clinical activity. Ensuring equipment is clean and dust free.
  • Keep storerooms tidy
  • Keep dirty utility tidy
General
  • Arrange for any faulty or broken equipment to be repaired by Clinical Engineering -main hospital site. If the equipment is sent for repair offsite them keeping up to date with its progress and facilitate its return to the CDC.
  • To assist patients navigating the department with or without disabilities.
  • To organise own workload, adjusting and prioritising appropriately as the ward actively dictates.
  • To respond to requests for general information.
  • To scan and send audits sheets, and orders to the relevant departments.
  • To ensure that pathology / histology samples are ready for collection
  • Assist with stock takes
