We are seeking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Site Manager’s Assistant, to join a supportive, caring and professional team from April 2025. The successful candidate will have some experience of, or ability to learn about, taking care of buildings and grounds and basic maintenance and DIY and will assist the Site Manager.

There will also be the opportunity to be a lifeguard for the School’s swimming pool and training will be provided if required.

Job Description:

To assist the Site Manager with the regular maintenance of all aspects of the school premises and other general duties as well as providing lifeguard cover for the swimming pool as required.

The post holder reports to the Site Manager and is ultimately responsible to the Head and the School Business Manager.

Main Responsibilities and Tasks
  • Locking and unlocking the school as arranged, including setting the alarm system.
  • Preventing trespass on the school premises and ensuring that unauthorised parking of vehicles does not occur.
  • Checking for damage or other security concerns throughout the day.
  • Assisting in maintaining the Site Manager’s workshop in a clean and tidy condition.
  • Upkeep and general care of the school.
  • Prepare bins in preparation for pick up.
  • Ensure that rubbish is stored appropriately.
  • Cleaning and tidying of the internal and external areas of the school during the day as directed.
  • Emergency cleaning and replenishment of toilets during the day as required.
  • General maintenance and minor repair work as directed.
  • General porterage duties and moving of furniture.
  • Assisting teaching staff with appropriate tasks as requested.
  • Supporting lettings as required, including opening, closing and general duties.
  • Preparation of hall for functions as required.
  • Receive and check goods and supplies and take them to the appropriate place for storage.
  • Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes.
  • Assist Site Manager to test fire alarms weekly and maintain test register.
  • Report any defects of buildings, furniture, fittings and equipment to the Site Manager.
  • Setting up and clearing away tables and chairs in the dinner hall daily.
  • Daily check of roofs for pooling, loose tiles, plant growth, etc.
  • Clean roller shutters, soffits, bargeboards and external lights.
  • Keep all hard surfaces free of ice and snow to ensure the safety of children, parents, staff and visitors.
  • During the absence of the Site Manager, ensure that the Swimming Pool is correctly heated, treated and cleaned.
  • Act as the lifeguard for lessons/activities in the swimming pool as required.
  • Ensure that all lights, heating and electrical sockets are working effectively, replacing as necessary and switching off when not in use.
  • Monitoring and setting of heating controls and boilers.
  • Be aware of the location of all stopcocks, gas and electricity meters and read meters as required.
  • Carrying out frost precaution procedures.
  • Ensure that the boiler houses are tidy and that no flammable material is stored there.
  • Any other reasonable tasks required by the Headteacher, School Business Manager or Site Manager.

  • Literacy and numeracy skills
  • Lifeguard qualification (desirable, training will be given if required)
