Creating a great place to be cared for and a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive.

We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Band 5 Adult Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our well-established, friendly and innovative community team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT).

You will ideally have some knowledge and/or skills in working with adults with acquired swallowing and communication differences with a commitment to continual professional development to deliver compassionate care to the people of Morecambe Bay.

Likewise, suitably experienced therapists willing to undertake structured training in dysphagia will be considered.

You will join the community team at an exciting time as we are currently reviewing our models of service delivery, which has recently involved a movement to integrating telehealth approaches to our usual practice settings including care/nursing homes, own homes and outpatient clinics.

Main duties of the job

The community team is part of the Adult Speech and Language Therapy service at UHMBT, which also has pathways in stroke, non-stroke, head and neck and voice. This offers opportunities to be part of our ‘grow your own’ ethos, with regular supervision, peer support, continual professional development and wider multidisciplinary links.

The service is supported by an overarching Clinical and Professional Lead and is embedded within the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System which enables involvement in a range of regional service and workforce initiatives.

If you are a motivated, flexible and forward-thinking newly qualified SLT who is ready to take the first step in their career, or a more experienced SLT wanting to contribute to the frontiers of community service development alongside a nurturing team and diverse cohort of patients, we would love to hear from you.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
