The Radiology nursing team is currently looking for a Senior Radiology Nurse Manager (Band 7) to join the team; the successful candidate will need to be a dynamic, enthusiastic individual, with established leadership experience. Previous Radiology nursing experience is preferable.We encourage and give staff the opportunity to develop their leadership, clinical skills, and competencies within Radiology.
The Radiology nursing team provide an invaluable service supporting patients undergoing Radiology guided procedures across the Trusts three acute hospital sites. We work closely with multiple specialities, GPs, consultants and other hospital departments.
Main duties of the job- To maintain continuing responsibility for the unit in your charge.
- Ensure staff competence for clinical practice procedures, using Trust competency framework, including appropriate underpinning knowledge and practical skill.
- To support and assist the Radiology management team to monitor performance and manage the nursing staff in areas of responsibility, ensuring all employment records are locally maintained and current.
- · Provide an effective role model, by demonstrating high standard of professional behaviour, in accordance with the NMC Code.
- Use clinical skills and knowledge to give specialist advice and support to peer group staff, patients and relatives.
- · Lead and develop the supervision and management of clinical nursing practice within area of responsibility to ensure safe and effective holistic evidence based care.
- · Support Senior Management in the development of departmental annual education and training plans by producing a Radiology Department Nursing based training and development plan
- · Contribute to the Radiology Department’s Risk Register and making available to the Governance Team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- Ensure that all staff update mandatory training in line with Trust guidelines.
- Maintain accurate staff records regarding annual leave, sickness and absence.
- Actively take part in and support departmental and Care Group initiatives and issues
- Identify and investigate any issues of conduct, discipline and performance within the team, in accordance with trust policies and procedures, in liaison with the radiology leadership team
- To work in a collaborative approach across site in offering nursing cover
- Ensure that all staff in the area undergo an annual appraisal and have a personal development plan
- To embed the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework within the department, with the support of the patient safety and governance teams
- Maintaining the area budget (pay and non pay) within the agreed budget. Report and investigate any deviation from this position (both deficits and surpluses). Also to deliver savings and efficiencies in line with the Trust’s objectives.

- Provide professional leadership, advice and guidance to nursing staff and healthcare assistants within the nursing environment and foster collaborative partnerships with other disciplines.
- Lead and develop the supervision and management of clinical nursing practice within area of responsibility to ensure safe and effective holistic evidence based care.
- Lead in the development of clinical standards ensuring these are set, embedded and monitored in accordance with the needs of the service.

- Lead and facilitate decision making within the Radiology Department and the development and implementation of Radiology Department’s objectives.
- Maintain continuing responsibility for professional, policy and procedural practice to ensure the continuance of best practice in your area during your absence.
- Ensure monitoring of patients and use of NEWS to allow early recognition and management of the acutely ill.
- Accountable for monitoring of agreed quality improvement metrics reporting weekly on compliance and implementation of action plans to make improvements.

- · Participate in audit and research programmes appropriate to the advancement of the nursing service as identified.
- Ensure staff standard of dress and appearance promotes patient and public confidence in Infection Prevention and Control practice.
- Accountable for the culture of cleanliness and compliance with best practice in Infection Prevention and Control, promoting zero tolerance to avoidable infection.
- Negotiate service level agreement with facilities provider and monitor performance, ensuring all staff are aware of how to request additional cleaning and report non-compliance.
- Ensure cleaning is carried out in accordance with the trust infection control and cleaning manuals e.g MRSA policy, C.Diff policy, Norovirus policy. Ensure all nurses in charge of shifts are aware of their direct responsibility for ensuring cleaning standards are maintained throughout the shift.
- Ensure all clinical areas have consistent access to alcohol hand rub.
- Implement Directorate Key Performance Indicator Targets as appropriate to area.
- Ensure vascular access devices are inserted and managed according to trust guidelines and that auditing of compliance is performed in line with the requirements of the KPIs.
- Ensure that relevant audits are completed by each clinical area in line with the Trust’s Annual Programme for Infection Prevention and Control.
- Ensure that action plans are developed and implemented following the annual Environmental Infection Control audits.
- Identify and implement service changes following adverse incidents/root cause analysis.
- Implement and support the Infection Prevention and Control Link Worker role with emphasis on ensuring hand hygiene training and assessment of competency.
- Act as the patient’s advocate and ensure the advocacy role is understood by all staff.
- Uphold quality initiatives that improve ‘customer care’ and enhance the interface between staff, patients, and visitors within the Trust.
- Ensure that Privacy and Dignity of patients is maintained at all times with robust systems in place.
- To ensure that learning from complaints is evidenced and actioned within the Radiology Department.
- Ensure that complaints are resolved by local resolution where possible.
- Contribute to formal complaint investigations, written responses and attendance of complaint meetings.
- Robust management of short and long term sickness in accordance with Trust policy.
- Production a Radiology Department Nursing based workforce plan.
- Support Senior Management in the development of departmental annual education and training plans by producing a Radiology Department Nursing based training and development plan.
- Participate in the review of Radiology Department Nursing staffing by leading annual acuity and dependency study to reflect changing nursing workload.
- Support Senior Nursing team by informing curriculum development of Higher Education Institution CPD framework in line with service developments.
- To ensure all annual appraisals for all Radiology Department Nursing staff, setting appropriate performance objectives in line with directorate and trust objectives.
- Ensure a robust process for Preceptorship is in place with the relevant support.
- To support and assist the clinical colleagues in appropriate multidisciplinary training or education seminars for staff, within the hospital environment.
- Ensure an effective learning environment for all staff. Ensure effective mentorship support for students and Preceptor support for Preceptees.
- Ensure adherence to the Clinical Governance Framework for nursing by ensuring appropriate policies, protocols and guidelines are in place to support practice.
- Contribute to the Radiology Department’s Risk Register and making available to the Governance Team.

Qualifications
Essential criteria- BSc Degree in Adult Nursing or equivalent
- Current NMC registration
- Specialist post registration experience or willingness to work towards
- Immediate Life Support/Advanced Life Support
Experience
Essential criteria- 2 years’ experience at Band 6 in a hospital setting
- Previous radiology Nursing experience
- Venepuncture, Cannulation, ECG, IV drugs, & ILS
- Leading in quality improvement project within clinical speciality
- 5 years post registration experience in a variety of acute clinical settings
- Some experience in budget management
- Knowledge of Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF)
