The Role
We are driving the maritime sector towards an efficient, sustainable, and zero-GHG future, providing independent, impartial evidence to policymakers and advising stakeholders on effective decarbonisation strategies. In this role, you will contribute your expertise across the full product life cycle and multiple international markets, helping clients assess, design, and implement policies and solutions that enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of maritime transport systems.Your passion for innovation and commitment to positive change will be key in delivering impactful projects that support safer, more sustainable communities worldwide.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to developing and delivering our growing portfolio of maritime decarbonisation projects within the Sustainable Transport team on behalf of a mixture of private organisations, industry associations and public sector clients.
- Lead and contribute to maritime decarbonisation projects involving policy design, policy evaluation, techno-economic analysis, scenario modelling, analysis of wider economic and social implications.
- Lead and contribute to the development of technical proposals primarily within the maritime sector but with ad hoc support across the wider team.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of sector technology developments, trends, challenges and regulations.
- Educated to a Bachelor’s degree level or higher in a related discipline such as maritime studies, economics, political science, engineering, sustainability.
- Relevant policy consultancy or advisory experience within the public or private sector.
- Experience in managing projects and tasks, and leading multi-disciplinary teams.
- An understanding of the maritime sector, at an operational level and at a commercial level, and the sustainability challenges facing maritime organisations.
- Knowledge of European climate transport policies such as those included in the Fit for 55 package and those set internationally by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
- Strong analytical skills synthesising several data sources.
- Great communicator, written and verbally including the ability to convey technical subjects clearly and concisely to a range of clients.
- Excellent time management with the ability to juggle time across multiple projects and prioritise deadlines seamlessly.
- Fluency in English and excellent reporting writing skills.
- Previous experience in developing and assessing maritime decarbonisation policies and strategies for both public and private clients.
- Ability to utilise existing sector contacts to support new opportunities and build trust-based relationships with clients and potential partners.
- Strong knowledge of economic analysis and policy evaluation methods.
- Understanding of vessel and energy efficiency technologies and alternative fuels.
- Knowledge of technical measures, carbon pricing mechanisms and Monitoring Reporting and Verification processes.
- We operate on a broad range of international projects within Europe, Latin America & South East Asia so fluency in other languages from these geographies is a bonus but not essential.
- Strong numerical, modelling and coding skills.
