Senior Public Affairs Executive
The successful candidate would be joining a fast paced External Affairs team, driving forward activity and helping to set the strategy. Excellent writing skills are a must.
The successful applicant must be a proactive self-starter who thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Tasks include:
- Support the work of the Director of External Affairs and Public Affairs Senior Manager
- Support the Public Affairs Senior Manager in delivering the Public Affairs Strategy
- Interact with parliamentarians, their offices and key political stakeholders
- Engage with members and build your understanding of the Private Equity and Venture Capital industry
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders including regulators, trade associations, regional bodies and businesses and demonstrate understanding of their value to BVCA
- Organise and manage parliamentary and stakeholder events from start to finish
- Support the Public Affairs team on party conference plans and engagement
- Propose and draft Social Media content for policy and political audiences
- Draft newsletters for MPs, updates for BVCA members and briefings for BVCA senior leadership
- Deliver internal updates at BVCA meetings with our members
- Identify key developments around major political and legislative milestones and communicate these internally and to members using monitoring services and independent research
- Draft briefings for meetings with Parliamentarians and in response to requests for further information
- Follow key news and political media and understand the relevance for our industry
Requirements
Experience- 2-5 years experience of working in politics, policy or public affairs
- Proven experience of developing and managing stakeholders
- Demonstrable experience of influencing policy informed audiences for a high-profile campaigning organisation or in a political environment
- Strong track record of demonstrable effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong writing skills with the ability to vary style of content and fastidious attention to detail.
- Strong social media content drafting and curation.
- Sound political and communication judgement
- Strong knowledge of and interest in the UK political environment
- Knowledge and understanding of engaging with politically informed public audiences on key social policy issues
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously
- Demonstrable initiative and enthusiasm, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Good judgement and political understanding
