An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic candidate to join the Information Governance team in the role of Information Governance Officer.
The Information Governance Officer will work collaboratively within the Information Governance team to support the Trust’s aims and objectives in relation to compliance with key legislation such as the UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act, as well as the Data Security and Protection Toolkit and information risk management framework.
The successful candidate will have prior knowledge/experience of governance, risk or information management within the public sector, ideally within a health and care setting. You will have experience of responding to challenging queries using research and negotiation skills, and relaying complex information in an easily understandable manner.
We are especially looking for someone who is inquisitive, detail-oriented and able to demonstrate an ability to work proactively, without supervision and under their own initiative.

Main duties of the job- To provide support to the Information Governance department in relation to information risk management and assurance
- To assist in ensuring compliance with the annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit submission, including taking the lead on audit requirements as delegated
- To work with key stakeholders across the Trust to ensure that the required information risk assurance work is undertaken in line with legal and regulatory requirements
- To ensure staff and stakeholders are aware of and carrying out their responsibilities under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act
- To assist patients and members of the public with exercising their rights, including processing requests for access to information
- To substantially contribute to information related information governance incident investigations

Experience
Essential criteria- Educated to degree level, or equivalent experience
- Further training to post graduate diploma level, or equivalent experience
- Specific Information Governance or Information Risk qualification
Experience
Essential criteria- Demonstrable experience of Information Governance (or similar area)
- Experience of managing projects
- Experience of successfully communicating with staff at all levels
- Experience of working to tight deadlines
- Experience of the Information Governance/Data Security and Protection Toolkit
- Previous NHS experience
Technical skills/competencies
Essential criteria- Excellent and effective communication skills both written and verbal, including disseminating and receiving of complex/sensitive information
- Demonstrable ability to work autonomously and without supervision
- Able to contribute to the training of Trust staff to meet Trust requirements
- Proficient skills in a range of relevant software packages including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Advanced ability in MS Access, particularly building reports
Knowledge
Essential criteria- Understanding and awareness of the IG agenda and its place within the healthcare environment
- Detailed knowledge and practical implementation of Data Protection legislation
- Understanding and awareness of Risk and Records Management within the NHS
- Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act
